DETECTION ON THE RANGES

Four years ago of that at the time of an English training course, I met HOWARD in Bournemouth. Specialist in the range for more than twenty years, I have prospected with him many times all the types of ranges which one can meet in the South of England. With his contact I learned much and often be amazed at what it could discover in a rather short lapse of time. By chance I re-examined Howard at the time of Pure Gold Rally the last year. If it had been able to give you consultings here what it would have said to you: " Observes and you will find ".

Really convinced and especially not remained on some ideas well " Frenchies " read in the specialized press, I decided to prospect with my practice, close to the small zone to rollers and gravels. Which was not my surprise at the end of one hour, Howard reapplied, and said to me that it was not where there was more. Laughing, I him rétorque that in France it is what one does. It asks me at once how many gold rings I found since the beginning; my negative answer did not astonish it... It had found two as well as a gold medal of them!

" You could have remained all aprés-midday without anything to find, me of after - midday when the conditions are good and that I observed well the ground I find five of them on average!

Even when they are not good I still find some.

In fact Howard had an infallible technique,

" To read sand, to know to observe the winds and to imagine where the bathers put themselves is significant. To locate the refreshment bars and any activity requiring of the currency too

with low tide it located the traces left by the currents. With certain in-rights, one sees like sinuous channels dug by the work of the tides.

These channels are not always also deep, from one day to another the tide and the winds working either in opposition, or in agreement do not return them not also rich, but altogether, it is indeed where there is more.

The deeper the furrow is, the more you will find objects such as rings, currencies or collar. All is attracted, sorted and filtered by the sea and finds itself in the neighbourhoods and in this " channel ".

If you put the following question with a sailor: the wind has it an effect on the marée' it will answer you: - yes.

It will explain you why when the wind is strong and that it blows in the direction of the low tide (or high), this one is some reinforced. If the wind is in contrary direction the effect of the tide is countered by the force of the wind. To know this effect of nature and to know how it is trained will offer you beautiful discoveries.

There are other natural effects which make move sand, the whole is of the dominer.Si in the prolongation of the channel are restaurants, coffees, refreshment bars, salesmen of ices, toilets, showers, hirers out of boards with veils, boats, etc... it is the place where generally people settle; and when they go down to the sea, they skirt this very momentary zone on both sides. However the prospector of the ranges must know to make the difference between the ranges with cliffs, those which in do not have, those with tides and without. One will thus not seek same manner according to the type of range.

THE EFFECT OF THE MAREES AND THE WIND:

RANGES WITHOUT

MAREES:

The absence of tides leaves the objects where they were lost. I.e. with the feet of the staircases, close to the refreshment bars, coffees, and other places previously quoted.

Although there is almost no sand movement, it should not be believed that the objects are not deep; often the town halls add sand, sometimes in very large quantity (often after a storm or when the work of the sea carried and thus made decrease the range!). Thus it sometimes happened to me on a range of Corsica to find a pair of Oakley glasses to more than fifty centimetres of depth what confirms the sand addition. Only the wind will have an action on this type of range, since the phenomenon of the tides is non-existent.

The most interesting zones on dry sand are the crossing points and the places of exchange of currency. But the richest zone is since the edge of the range, where the moms bathe their babies, until where water arrives at the size. In this place, the losses of collars rings and watches are significant. **time-out** like it there have not some tide, all be there, the best for this type of search be to have a detector tight and either a tool special in shape of cup perforate provide of a length handle, either of a bottle of diving, because even if it there have only one meter of depth, one be quickly blow. Then and by experiment, beyond the limit of 1,20m / 1,40m, there is no more great a deal to find even if if certain veliplanchists are devoted to their sport preferred with some currencies in their pocket and that one can find with more than 30 meters of the edge! To finish do not forget to seek around all that can be used as diving board (emerging rock, supervised bathes, bridge, etc...

RANGES WITH MAREES:

As I explained previously the tides will bring back or remove sand. One can realize it by looking at the piles planted along the piers. One day they well are seen, the decreased shortly they one after 40 cm, because the preceding tide with brought back 40 cm of sable.Inutile thus to prospect this zone because all that is interesting is with more than 60 cm!!

So on the other hand it is the opposite which occurs, locate the zones or the sea with let appear tapes of rollers. In these places, the lucky finds can be abundant, especially if the rollers have just appeared. Perhaps that this zone was not prospected for a long time. Objects heavy having been attracted in this place by their weight and " captive " of the rollers. Sometimes in some rare cases of violent storms, it happens that most of sand was withdrawn with broad and leaves in its place is large rollers, clay mixed with famous black sands or quite simply of levelling limestone, it is the base of the range, one cannot go low, therefore these places discovered thanks to the storms are excellent but will be accessible only temporarily in a year. In such a case it will be necessary for you to prospect all the range (be not astonished too much by the results).

When with the covered ranges of rollers, they are not very productive, but can become it in the event of hurricane!

There is a last type of range about which I did not speak. It is those which resemble a sand language and which with the liking of the winds and currents move. These ranges are not very good because difficult to prospect, indeed there, it will be necessary for you to seek everywhere and moreover, like the ranges without tides, they are infested papers of aluminium, ties of quills....

WHICH REGLAGES
TO CHOOSE?

- SENSITIVITY:

That depends if you are on a dry or wet zone. On dry sand maximum sensitivity (6 and more) on wet sand, one will have evil to exceed 5, without what one will have too many false-signals.

- DISCRIMINATION:

It must be weak, below the elimination of the tie of quill. All the apparatuses regulated with the top will eliminate certain gold rings, because they are confused by your apparatus. Idem if you have a system notch, certain rings are not detected. Best is thus to lower discrimination in order to be almost sure nothing to let pass. One will thus prefer to regulate the discri between 0 and 4 maximum (in order to eliminate from the nails).

Certain prospectors dig even out of all-metal to be even surer anything to lose.

WHICH MATERIEL
TO CHOOSE?

To seek on dry sand, your apparatus terrestrial are largely enough, even on slightly wet sand (sea have just withdrawn themselves) they are still effective. The things really become complicated when one arrives there or it sand is wet permanently. In this case, it is necessary an adapted detector for you.

The range of these apparatuses is rather wide: One can quote the various marks and more particularly: Stingray for tesoro, Exalibur, Sovereign xs or xs pro2 for Minelab and Aquanaut for Fisher. But an apparatus gains all the votes over dry sand: 43 cm for Napoleon 10 cts! No apparatus is able to do that.

If the range is not polluted too much by iron glares, one will use successfully a P.I (pulsated induction). This detector offers the advantage of being very powerful, it can reach more than 40 cm for a large currency, but it does not discriminate. There one is sure nothing to forget. The Gold rings will be easily detected even if one is in the Zone of black sands. These apparatuses are really played of any ground effect (finally almost) and offer unequalled performances (one will remember the English of Thalassa who uses a Surfing P.I of White' S). This type of apparatus is really of a frightening effectiveness on wet sand, and especially in black sands. The left last is not forgotten: Deepstar which really go down very deep. It became one of the apparatuses preferred of Daniel (Thalassa).

On dry sand Howard has a preference: 6000 Di always from White' S in mode TR, or Spectrum. For all the aircraft equipped with an analytical Modulation meter, one will pay attention to the zone " foil " or " tabs " bus of the rings can be detected in this zone, consequently, one will take guard to be dug only when the sound is good without worrying about the Modulation meter, especially if it indicates " non-iron " (non-ferrous). But one will be able to use with sucked the CZ5,6,7, a musketeer XS (or the old one). The GTI 2000 is excellent also on dry sand.

The last small consulting, do not forget to take a cap (perhaps strong sun), and inform you about the schedules of the tides before very left. Indeed, at the time of a spring tide, it would be annoying that one finds you on a sand language, surrounded by water!

Await that all or a large majority of the bathers left the range, in order to not the géner. But to have made the experiment of it, it is difficult to dig on a target when one has ten kids around oneself who throw themselves on sand with the least sound. Be thus courteous () and do not hesitate to render service in the event of loss of objects.

Theoretically if you take all this advice, you find much more targets. Witnesses with the support!!!
